ANALYSIS + HIGHLIGHTS: Vancouver Whitecaps book semi-finals date with Inter Miami after late winner vs. Pumas UNAM
The Vancouver Whitecaps have booked a spot in the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup semi-finals and a date with Lionel Messi's Inter Miami after scoring a last-minute series equalizer – and away-goal advantage winner – vs. Pumas UNAM at the Estadio Olimpico Universitario.
An opening goal by Sebastian Berhalter in the first half, cancelled out soon after by an equalizer from Guillermo Ayala, brought this quarter-finals series to a 2-2 draw, with each team holding a crucial away goal. But Pumas fans thought they'd won it when Ignacio Pussetto scored an 88th minute goal off a cross (and an initial cross-bar smash), taking the 2-1 lead on the night, 3-2 on aggregate.
But... Tristan Blackmon had other ideas, scoring in the 93rd minute to book their semi-finals berth as Jesper Sorensen and his players were sent into pure jubilation, a late series winner showing character and seeing the Canadian club down their second consecutive Mexican giant.
