Form Guide: How CanMNT's squad is performing ahead of March friendlies

Mitchell Tierney

Canada NT

Just four matches remain before the Canadian men's national team kicks off the World Cup at BMO Field on June 12.

Two of those will be played over the next week, as Canada host Iceland on Saturday, and Tunisia on Tuesday, March 31 at that same BMO Field stadium.

This past Thursday, Canada named its 26-player squad for the window. Both Moïse Bombito and Alistair Johnston were called into camp as training players, but will not see action.

Here is how those called up have been performing of late for their respective club sides:

Goalkeepers

Max Crépeau, Orlando City SC

It has been a tough start to life for Max Crépeau at Orlando City SC. To be fair, he’s had some strong individual performances, and has already made 19 saves in four matches, but is winless through his first four appearances with the club, including a 5-0 loss to Nashville SC this past weekend. He was also sent off in week three, missing Orlando’s only win of the season so far, a 2-1 result against his former side, CF Montréal, during the following matchday.

Owen Goodman, Barnsley FC

After spending the latter half of his loan at Huddersfield Town on the bench, Goodman has made 16 straight starts since joining Barnsley in January. His side currently sits 13th in the table in League One.

Dayne St. Clair, Inter Miami

Like Crépeau, St. Clair hasn’t quite had the dream start to life in Florida – even if he does now call Lionel Messi a teammate. In MLS, things have gone fairly well, as despite a few shaky moments, he has won in three of his four appearances. But an early elimination in the Concacaf Champions Cup to Nashville SC is a disappointment – both for what it could have meant for the player and club.

Defenders

Derek Cornelius, Rangers FC

Cornelius hasn’t played since November after suffering an injury with Rangers, but he does reportedly come into camp fit and ready to go. Unfortunately, that may not bode well for his future with the Glasgow club, as he has largely been training with the second team since returning from injury and seems like he is currently outside of Rangers’ plans.

Luc de Fougerolles, FCV Dender

De Fougerolles also comes into the camp off the back of an injury, but thankfully not one as serious as it initially looked when he was taken out of the match in the 33rd minute of a 2-2 draw between Dender and Charleroi. He has missed the past two weeks, but comes into this window expecting to get minutes after a solid year in which he’s made 23 appearances in the Belgian top flight.

Richie Laryea, Toronto FC

The Toronto FC full-back has played every minute this season for the club, picking up an assist in a 1-0 win over Cincinnati earlier this month. He remains a vital piece for both club and country.

Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty, New York Red Bulls

Since moving to the New York Red Bulls, Marshall-Rutty has established himself as a key player under head coach Michael Bradley. He has started all five of the club’s matches so far this season.

Kamal Miller, Portland Thorns

After coming off the bench in the first two weeks of the season, Miller started the past three games for the Portland Timbers. But after going the full 90 in back-to-back games, he was sent off in the 19th minute of this past weekend’s 1-1 draw with the LA Galaxy.

Ralph Priso, Whitecaps FC

Priso has gone from strength to strength, building on a breakout 2025 by proving vital to the Whitecaps once again – all while in a fairly new position. He has played every minute of the team’s five MLS games, three of which were clean sheets, at centre back. He also started twice in the Concacaf Champions Cup. This is a vital camp for the 23-year-old, but he is playing the best football of his young career at a perfect time.

Niko Sigur, Hajduk Split

Other than two matches missed through a red card, and the ten minutes following his dismissal, Niko Sigur has played every minute this year for Hajduk Split. After starting the season as a midfielder, he has been getting consistent starts as a right-back as the season goes on. Sigur has one goal and two assists in the Croatian top flight this campaign.

Joel Waterman, Chicago Fire

Waterman has appeared in all five games for Gregg Berhalter’s Chicago Fire since the start of the season. That includes three starts, including this past weekend in a 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Union.

Midfielders

Ali Ahmed, Norwich City FC

Few Canadian players are in better form than Ali Ahmed coming into this camp, as he hit the ground running following a move to Championship side Norwich City in January. He is starting consistently and going longer and longer into matches as his fitness and form continue to grow. With four goals and three assists in 13 league matches, Ahmed has been a massive difference maker for the Canaries, who were in a relegation position when he got there. They are now in tenth.

Tajon Buchanan, Villarreal CF

While he hasn’t quite matched the torrid pace with which he started the season, scoring a hat-trick in the second week, Buchanan has still received consistent starts for the Yellow Submarines throughout the season. He has a goal and an assist since the start of 2026, for a Villarreal side who currently sit third in the La Liga table.

Mathieu Choinière, Los Angeles City

Since his move to LA became permanent ahead of this season, Choinière has been thriving. The 27-year-old has appeared in all nine of LAFC’s matches in all competitions, starting four, and has scored a pair of goals as well. Given Stephen Eustaquio’s absence, this could be a big window for him to earn key minutes.

Marcelo Flores, Tigres UANL

After an incredibly strong start to the season with Tigres in the Clausura, scoring three goals in the first four matches, he has slowed down a little bit. But after a difficult Apertura, where he made just five appearances, he has already made nine in the Clausura, to go with three appearances and an assist in the Concacaf Champions Cup.

Junior Hoilett, Swindon Town

Whatever you think of the level, Junior Hoilett’s move to League Two side Swindon Town has been excellent for his playing time and production. The 35-year-old veteran has made nine appearances, five of them starts, since joining in January, registering a goal and two assists.

Ismaël Kone, Sassuolo FC

Arguably Canada’s most consistent player this year, Koné is having the best season of his professional career at 23 with Sassuolo in Serie A. Making 27 appearances, all of them starts, Koné has five goals and has proven himself to be a top midfielder in the Italian league this season, with plenty of reported interest from teams further up the table.

Liam Millar, Hull City FC

After a lengthy ACL recovery, Millar has found his rhythm again, playing 22 consecutive matches in the Championship for Hull City. He has scored two goals and three assists this campaign, and will now turn his attention toward fighting for a spot at one of Canada’s winger spots, which is quite the crowded position.

Jonathan Osorio, Toronto FC

Osorio has captained Toronto FC through every minute of their season so far, picking up an assist in their opening match of the season. He faces a difficult battle ahead in the midfield for a spot on this squad, but with two matches this window in his home stadium, it is as great an opportunity as ever for him to stake a claim.

Nathan Saliba, Anderlecht

The level at which Saliba has played in his first season in Europe has perhaps gone under the radar a little bit in terms of his quality and consistency. He has made 37 appearances in all competitions for the Belgian side, the vast majority of which are starts, scoring four goals and two assists.

Jonathan David, Juventus

David comes into this camp in need of a reset. He has gone eight matches without a goal for Juventus, and has slowly seen his minutes dwindle. That includes no action whatsoever this past weekend against Sassuolo. Evidently, he is still a top-class striker, and does have seven goals and five assists this season in all competitions, but he could definitely use the boost of confidence that a strong window would provide.

Daniel Jebbison, Preston North End

The 22-year-old had a great start to the season with Preston North End, on loan from Bournemouth, scoring five times and adding two assists in his first fifteen matches of the season. He only has one goal in 2026, but he's still been getting consistent minutes for a Preston team that have struggled of late.

Cyle Larin, Southampton FC

Canada’s second all-time leading goalscorer comes into this camp feeling fully reinvigorated following a move to Southampton in the Championship, which has gone brilliantly so far. He scored his fourth goal in all competitions already this past weekend in a 2-0 win over Oxford United, and has also provided an assist. To make things even better, Southampton have been playing brilliantly, and are now up into sixth in the table.

Tani Oluwaseyi, Villarreal CF

Oluwaseyi has slowly seen his usage shrink in 2026, starting just once since the turn of the calendar. Still, in his first campaign at a very high level, Oluwaseyi will look to prove his growth as he looks to once again lead Canada’s line in the March window.

Aribim Pepple, Plymouth Argyle

Pepple’s first senior national team call-up comes in the midst of an unbelievable run of scoring form for Plymouth Argyle in League One. His goal this past weekend against Huddersfield Town was his tenth goal in his past 12 league matches. With 15 in all competitions, he has been the most prolific Canadian during this World Cup year.

Jacen Russell-Rowe, Toulouse FC

The 23-year-old is still finding his footing since a move to France to join Toulouse FC, but coming into this camp, he has started back-to-back matches and made eight appearances overall. He has fit in well at the new level, and the goals will surely follow soon. This is a big camp for Russell-Rowe, as given Promise David’s injury, he would love to prove himself to be the next in line in Canada's striker pecking order.
